2015 NSW Basketball Country Championships

Orange Eagles Under 14 boys finished outright 3rd in Division 1 of the NSW Country Championships played over the long weekend in Newcastle.

The boys played some fantastic basketball in a hotly contested Division defeating Maitland 69-34, Canberra 67-36, lost to Gosford Rebels in overtime 54-50, defeated Newcastle in the semifinal 55-49 and lost in the final to Tamworth 55-49.

It was the first time Orange has had a team in Division One for many years, we went there knowing that we would be up against some very strong talented teams of which most play in the Country Premier League.

“We had 5 boys from Orange who were available to play and picked up 2 boys from Griffith so that we could play. All the boys contributed in every game”. Coach Grant Cole said

Throughout the weekend we ran into trouble with three of the boys sustaining minor injuries which in the end took a toll on the teams push for the Grand Final.

In the game against Tamworth we were in a great position at the end of the third quarter trailing by 6 points and continually forced their guards to turn the ball over, we simply ran out of fuel in the fourth quarter and couldn’t breech the gap, our shots just wouldn’t drop.

Tamworth went on to take the title defeating Gosford Rebels by 60 points to 49.
